Jama Masjid in Delhi Was Originally Jamuna Devi Temple, Says BJP MP Vinay Katiyar
New Delhi, Dec 7: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Vinay Katiyar has yet again claimed history to be different, this time citing Jama Masjid in national capital Delhi. After saying Agra’s Taj Mahal was a Shiva temple, Katiyar has now said that Jama Masjid was originally Jamuna Devi Temple. He also said that the Mughal emperors brought down at least 6,000 structures.
“There were about 6000 places that were broken down by the Mughal emperors. Delhi’s Jama Masjid was originally Jamuna Devi temple, similarly Taj Mahal was Tejo Mahalaya,” Katiyar said as quoted by news agency ANI.
Earlier, Katiyar had claimed that the Mughals replaced a Shivling inside the Taj Mahal with a Mazaar. Katiyar had said the Taj Mahal is full of symbols of Hindu gods and goddesses. Katiyar had said that inside the Taj, used to be a Shiv Ling (a phallic statue which symbolises Hindu god Shiva), on which water used to drip from the roof, but this was later replaced by the Mughals with a Mazaar.
The Opposition had hit out at Katiyar for presenting alternate history. Congress leader Raj Babbar had called it “cheapness.” “BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), Bajrang Dal, RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), their work is to say something to get in limelight. I think this is cheapness. I have only one answer to this, that those people are not in a good condition as when we talk about Jay Shah they talk about Shah Jahan,” said Babbar.
