S Jaishankar comes to rescue of bonded labourer stranded in Thailand

Jaishankar has directed the officials in Indian Embassy in Thailand to facilitate the exit of Indian national stranded in Thailand as bonded labourer. The Indian national was forced to work in a hotel as bonded labourer without salary.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar assured help to an Indian national stranded in Thailand as bonded labourer.

Jaishankar has directed the officials in Indian Embassy in Thailand to facilitate his exit from Thailand. "Thiru Manithurai is being rendered all help & guidance by our Embassy @IndiainThailand to facilitate his exit from Thailand. We are also keeping his family in Tiruppur updated of the situation," Jaishankar posted on Twitter on Tuesday.

Mariammal, who hails from Kulathipalayam in Tirupur district on Tamil Nadu, had sent two of her sons to Thailand in January. She sent two of her sons -- Thiru Manithurai and Manikandan -- to work in a garment factory in Thailand through an agent. Mariammal, who works at a garment factory in Tirupur district, paid Rs 70 lakh to the agent to facilitate her sons' employment.

However, to her dismay she got to know that both her sons were made to work in a hotel as bonded labourers without salary.

She then tried to rescue her sons but only managed to rescue her younger son Manikandan by paying Rs 80,000. She recently submitted a petition to Tirupur collector seeking help to rescue her elder son Thiru Manithurai. The collector had then forwarded the petition to the Ministry of External Affairs.

After examining the request, EAM S Jaishankar has assured all help to rescue her elder son Thiru Manithurai from Thailand.
