Jaipur: Mayor claims action taken against hotel for feeding beef; cops yet to send food sample for probe

Jaipur Ashok Lahoti claimed Jaipur Municipal Corporation officials were sent on Sunday to 'seize' the hotel for its 'misadventure' to feed beef to gau mata.

While the Jaipur Police is yet to send food samples collected from Hotel Hayat Rabbani to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), the newly elected Mayor and BJP member Ashok Lahoti already seems to have decided that it was beef that was being fed at the hotel. This, despite the fact that the area SHO told India Today on Monday that food samples collected prima facie seemed to be of chicken and will be sent to FSL for investigation.

In a WhatsApp message on a chat group, Lahoti claimed Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) officials were sent at 11 in the night (on Sunday) to 'seize' the hotel on hotel's 'misadventure' to feed beef to gau mata.

While speaking to India Today over the phone, Lahoti did not deny that he had sent the message. On being asked as to why the hotel was sealed, he claimed it was because the hotel was in violation of norms. He also claimed that the hotel was illegal, that it did not have a restaurant licence and mentioned that the way non-vegetarian food was thrown along with garbage was also in absolute violation.

More than 150 cow vigilantes protested outside the hotel premises alleging cow beef was being served there.

Late on Sunday, Kamal Didi, a cow vigilante from the Rashtriya Mahila Gaurakasha Dal, led the demonstration and entered into a heated exchange with the hotel staff claiming the hotel staff was involved in serving beef. It also alleged that the hotel staff threw the remnants of the non-vegetarian food in the nearby park.

The hotel was sealed by the Jaipur municipal corporation after cow vigilantes protested outside its premises on March 19.
