Wilshere quit the Hammers earlier this month as both parties agreed to a mutual termination of his contract.
The 28-year-old had made just one EFL Cup appearance in the early part of this season and has played less than 20 games in total since leaving Arsenal in the summer of 2018.
His departure from the Emirates coincided with Wenger’s, the Frenchman having played an influential role in his development, handing him a first team debut at the age of just 16.
And, speaking to the BBC, Wilshere revealed he still speaks to his former mentor and would likely do so again before deciding on his next step as he looks to revive his career.
"I spoke to Arsene when we were negotiating everything with West Ham and he was helpful,” Wilshere said.
“When the time is right, as and when I have some options, where they are and what would be best for me, he would probably be the one I would call, yes."
