A soldier of the Indian army was found dead with gunshot injuries in an army camp in the Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Thursday.

A police official told the Greater Kashmir publication that the body of the soldier has been taken to the hospital for post-mortem and that an investigation into the murder, which took place under mysterious circumstances, is currently underway.

According to media reports, the soldiers has been identified as Sepoy Balraj Singh from Punjab and is survived by his wife and daughter. The Indian Army has informed the deceased soldier's family about his death.

Defence Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta was quoted by India Today as saying that the police authorities were also informed about the soldier's death and have already began investigating the case.

Meanwhile, a terrorist was killed in a brief encounter near the Bandipora Police Station in north Kashmir on Tuesday.

A soldier was also injured in sniper fire across the border at the Line of Control (LoC) in the poonch district, Greater kashmir reported.
