Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Inaugurate Raisina Dialogue 2018 Today
New Delhi, January 15: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday kicked off a six-day visit to India, hoping to boost trade and defence ties to advance a complex budding relationship with New Delhi.
In 15 years, this is the first ever visit to India by an Israeli leader which comes less than six months after Narendra Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel.
PM Modi notably didn’t travel to the West Bank to meet Palestinian leaders during that trip.
The warm personal chemistry between the two prime ministers has given rise to a flurry of enthusiasm. PM Netanyahu in July hailed the relationship as a “marriage made in heaven”.
Netanyahu and a 130-member delegation have a busy schedule for next five days, that covers a range of issues, including agriculture and defence.
Other areas slated for discussion are strengthening ties in the oil and gas arena, innovation and cybersecurity.
In the cultural field, Netanyahu’s planned visit with stars and executives of Bollywood is designed to increase Israel’s exposure and leverage Bollywood’s global influence, Israeli official said in a statement.
