A rejuvenated Chennaiyin FC take on Jamshedpur FC in their eighth match of the ISL 2018-19 season on Sunday.

After a disastrous start to their title defence, Chennaiyin gained momentum in their seventh match of the season by beating FC Pune City 4-2 away from home.

The Marina Machans were under tremendous pressure after losing five out of their first six matches. The team had managed to just score five goals before the Pune game and had conceded nine times.

But a fantastic win against the Stallions saw Chennaiyin gain some badly-needed confidence.

Their star striker Jeje Lalpekhlua is out of form since the beginning of the season along with some other key players in their squad. The India international need forward to find his scoring boots as soon as possible in order to keep the reigning champions in contention for a play-off spot.

It must be noted that Cesar Ferrando’s failed to register a win in their last two matches since their scintillating win over FC Goa at home.

Pune City Chennaiyin FC

Since then they have travelled to Delhi where they were held to a 2-2 draw and then lost out to then bottom-placed FC Pune City in Pune.

The defence have been a major concern for Cesar Ferrando’s since the beginning of the season. The team is scoring goals but are conceding at crucial junctures to throw away points.

The Men of Steel have drawn five out of eight matches and the majority of them were high scoring games. This clearly indicates that their attack force is firing consistently but their backline is their biggest concern.

Jamshedpur have just one injury concern in Sergio Cidoncha who has travelled to Spain to heal a knee injury. Their young striker Gaurav Mukhi received an interim suspension from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in an age-fudging case.

The good news for them is that Tim Cahill is back from Australia after appearing in his final international match for the Socceroos. His addition will further strengthen their attack.

Will Chennaiyin pick up three more points and move further in the league table or will Jamshedpur get back to winning ways at their own backyard?
