GAME PREVIEW

Chennaiyin FC looked a rejuvenated side when they downed FC Pune City 4-2 to win their first three points of the season. However, they were brought crashing back down in the 3-1 defeat on Sunday at the hands of Jamshedpur.

John Gregory's side have suffered the most number of defeats (6) in the current season of the ISL. They have a mere four points from eight matches and are on level on points with the bottom-placed Delhi Dynamos.

John Gregory has tried from playing Francis Fernandes at right back to fielding Inigo Calderon as a defensive midfielder. Carlos Salom has been tried in place of an off colour Jeje Lalpekhlua while using Andrea Orlandi hasn't paid off either.

They haven’t been defensively sold either which was their hallmark from last season. Chennaiyin's star players have failed to deliver as per expectations, leaving the option to perhaps hand an opportunity to untested players such as Srinivasan Pandian, Zohmingliana Ralte and others.

There is a good chance that Karanjit Singh, who had a shoddy performance in Jamshedpur, could possibly miss out on a starting berth with Sanjiban Ghosh waiting in line.

David James wouldn’t have expected his side to be beaten after being in the lead for 90+3 minutes against NorthEast United. Kerala Blasters conceded twice in injury time to register their third successive loss after four draws with their only win coming on the opening day against ATK.

Seven points from eight games is what they have coming into this tie as they are now on a seven-game winless run.

The Yellow Army have four games before the Christmas break to get their season on track starting with a win against Chennaiyin FC who are also struggling to find their feet as well.

Complacency, especially to concede late goals, will be the last thing Kerala will want. The onus will be on the senior players such as Sandesh Jhingan, Chekiyot Vineeth to put in a strong display and lift the spirit of the squad.

It remains to be seen which team can get themselves up and produce a strong display in order to save their season.
