GAME PREVIEW

ATK are still searching for their first win at home this season when they host fellow strugglers Chennaiyin FC.

Steve Coppell’s teams are usually not prolific, as witnessed in his earlier stints with Kerala Blasters and Jamshedpur FC respectively. ATK have scored three goals in four matches despite having a host of attacking players at his disposal.

ATK come into the tie on the back of a 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur FC, who despite seeing more of the ball, didn’t test the opposition’s defence. What would please Coppell is that against Jamshedpur, his side looked compact as a unit with players not giving much space to the attackers.

Kalu Uche was kept out of the matchday squad last time due to a knock and whether the Nigerian will be fit for the upcoming tie is up in the air. Manuel Lanzarote did a score in the last tie but his influence on the field has been restricted.

It will be interesting to see how they fare against Chennaiyin FC, who were wasteful upfront against Delhi Dynamos.

Gregory opted to field an attacking line-up in their previous game where they created several opportunities to score but the finishing touch was missing. Carlos Salom missed at least three open chances to open his account in the ISL.

Jeje Lalpekhlua will have to up his game if he has to end his goal drought this season. In his two substitute appearances, Gregory Nelson looks lively with his silky touches and could make it a difficult evening for Aiborlang Khongjee, who has been average at best.

The centre-back pairing of Inigo Calderon and Eli Sabia looked much better as skipper Mailson Alves’ shoddy displays have left Gregory no option but to drop him.

Their midfield looked much better as Raphael Augusto, Andrea Orlandi, Anirudh Thapa saw more of the ball with Thoi Singh and Isaac Vanlalsawma being effective from the flanks.

In a clash of two struggling sides, it will be interesting to see which team can pick three points to climb the points ladder.
