UP: Irate villagers stage protest, demand tracing of missing priest

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Apr 4 (PTI) Scores of villagers and seers staged a protest in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district on Sunday, a day after a 60-year-old priest, planning to fight the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Panchayat elections, went missing.

Baba Hari Giri Maharaj of Shiv Temple in Sarnawali village, which comes under the jurisdiction of Phugana police station, had been missing since Saturday morning.

He was in the temple on Friday night but was nowhere to be found on Saturday morning, Muzaffarnagar Superintendent of Police (Rural) A K Shrivastava had said.

The irate villagers and seers from nearby temples staged a dharna here.

According to police, a team has been formed to trace the missing priest.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sharad Chandra Sharma had told PTI that the priest was also planning to file his nomination for the post of village head (gram Pradhan) in the upcoming panchayat elections. PTI CORR SNE
