The exciting thing about T20 cricket, especially the IPL, is the number of huge totals being posted in every season. We have witnessed every team score a 200+ score at least once. Some teams have even posted scores above 230.
But we’re not talking about every team today. We are going to talk about the most successful IPL team in history – Chennai Super Kings. Over the years, CSK has entertained the fans on the field as well as off the field. They could even be considered as one of the most well-balanced teams in the IPL throughout all the seasons.
However, CSK batsmen are best known for their big hitting and aggressive style of cricket. That being said, let’s take a little trip down memory lane and have a look at the five highest totals posted by the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
#5 211/4 vs Delhi Capitals at Pune, April 30, 2018
A returning CSK was determined as ever to reclaim their throne as the most successful IPL team. Hence, they looked unstoppable for a major part of the season. And even more so when they took on the Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) at Pune. The Capitals won the toss and elected to field first, a decision they would soon regret.
Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis opened the batting for CSK and put on a massive 102-run partnership. Suresh Raina, who came in to bat at number 3, was dismissed for 1 run. Watson was the next wicket to fall as he was dismissed for a well played 78.
Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni put on a good partnership with Rayudu scoring 41 runs before getting out in the final over. Dhoni scored a quick fifty off just 21 balls to help his team reach a total of 211/4.
However, Delhi Capitals didn’t succumb to the huge target in front of them. They put on a tough fight despite losing a couple of early wickets. It was Rishabh Pant (79 runs from 45 balls) and Vijay Shankar (54 runs from 31 balls) who helped steady the innings. It still wasn’t enough as Delhi lost the match by just 13 runs.
The man of the match was Watson for his knock of 78 runs.
#4 222/5 vs Delhi Capitals at Chennai, May 25, 2012
It should come as no surprise by now that most teams in the IPL love to play against Delhi Capitals. Chennai Super Kings is one of those teams that have dominated Delhi over the years. Hence, it should not be a surprise to find Delhi on this list for the second time.
This match took place at the 2012 edition of the IPL when CSK took on DC at Chennai. By now, Chennai had built an impenetrable fortress at home and Delhi really had their work cut out for them if they were to walk away with the win.
Delhi won the toss and elected to field first. Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey opened the batting for CSK. It was Vijay’s day to shine with the bat. As wickets tumbled at the other end, Vijay anchored the innings on his way to a masterful century scoring 113 runs.
Notable cameos from MS Dhoni (23 runs from 10 balls) and Dwayne Bravo (33 runs from 12 balls) ensured that CSK reaches a total of 222/5 in 20 overs.
In response, Delhi Capitals barely put up a fight and were bowled out for just 136 runs. The only saving grace for DC was Mahela Jayawardene’s half-century.
A deserving Murali Vijay was adjudged the man of the match for his match-winning knock.

CSK were favorites to win the tournament in 2008 and this match showed just how strong of a team CSK are when they took on Kings XI Punjab.
Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat first. It was Mathew Hayden and Parthiv Patel who opened the batting for CSK. After losing an early wicket, Michael Hussey walked out to bat at number 3. From there on, it was the Hussey show.

#1 246/5 vs Rajasthan Royals at Chennai, April 3, 2010
This has to be one of the most memorable matches in the history of the IPL. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, CSK batsmen, especially Murali Vijay, were on top form. He slammed the bowlers to all parts of the ground on his way to a brilliant century. Matthew Hayden also contributed with a quick 34, but it was Albie Morkel who finished off the innings in style with his cameo of 62 from 32 balls. The end result of all this batting blitzkrieg was a huge total of 246/5.
Just when CSK fans thought that this will be an easy win for their team, they were proved wrong when Rajasthan Royals made CSK work really hard for the win.
RR had to play aggressive cricket right from the first over and they managed to score at more than 12 runs per over right from the start. Naman Ojha scored an unbeaten 94 runs from 55 balls. But it was Shane Watson who stole the show with his knock of 60 runs from 25 balls. His knock also helped RR come within winning distance of CSK’s target.
Despite all their efforts, Rajasthan Royals fell short of their target by just 23 runs. Vijay was named the man of the match for his superb innings with the bat. This match will forever be remembered as one of Chennai Super Kings’ best matches in the IPL.
