This is a match between two heavyweights but both of them are not having a tournament to remember by any means. Mumbai Indians has been inconsistent in the season as they have won four out of the seven matches this season. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore is sitting on the last position in the table as this has been another disappointing campaign for them.
MI is the joint most successful team in history as they have won the IPL title three times. The hosts have won 17 of the 26 encounters against RCB. A win in this match would go a long way towards their quest to qualify for the playoffs.
RCB is arguably the best franchise to not lift the IPL trophy. Considering their horrible start to the season, they don't seem likely to change that record this season. A win against a team like MI would be great for the confidence of the team.
If MI bat first
MI's batting line up has been as consistent as a whole this season. No batsman has done well consistently for them. The form of captain Rohit Sharma is worrying as he is yet to score a half-century this season.
They have great depth in the batting line up with no dearth of power hitters. Considering the Wankhede pitch, they should aim to score around 190-200.
If RCB bat first
The fact that RCB batting line up is over-dependent on Virat Kohl and AB de Villiers has been the biggest cause of their downfall. They need other batsmen to step up if they want to score big against the good bowling attack of MI.
RCB has two of the best batsmen of this era but MI has a bowling attack to stop them. RCB should score around 170-180 in their first innings.
Who will win?
MI has a much better-balanced team than RCB. The home team should be able to register a win in front of their home crowd.
