The Indian Premier League is all set to begin on April 5, 2017. VIVO IPL 2017 marks a decade of IPL and is also the last year for the teams to play with retained players. The team at IPL 10 have therefore made it a point to make the event larger and grander than the previous seasons. The opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League will take place at eight different locations, at the home cities of the eight teams. The tenth edition of Indian Premier League will have star-studded opening ceremonies with Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra performing at the event. Other stars like Amy Jackson and Ritesh Deshmukh are yet to confirm their presence at the shows. The first opening ceremony will take place at Hyderabad where the defending champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The idea of eight separate IPL opening ceremony was discussed by the members of the board of Indian Premier League. IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the team had planned eight separate opening ceremonies for each city. The theme of each opening ceremony will be based on the culture and tradition of the host cities. VIVO IPL 2017 has had a rough start off kind with key players like Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin among others suffering from injuries. The eight IPL opening ceremonies will be held at Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Gujarat, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Indore and different Bollywood personalities have been approached for each of the ceremonies. As we countdown to the beginning of another eventful season of IPL, here is everything you need to know about the Indian Premier League Season 10 opening ceremony.
1. Celebrity Performances
IPL opening ceremonies have always been a fancy affair with stars like Hrithik Roshan, Anushka Sharma, Shah Rukh Khan and others shaking a league and beginning the two month long entertaining sports event. VIVO IPL 2017 will have stars like Shraddha Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Monali Thakur performing at various opening ceremonies. The first IPL opening ceremony will be held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Amy Jackson has been approached for the opening performance here. However, the actress has not yet confirmed if she will be performing. Shraddha Kapoor and Monali Thakur will woo Kolkata fans at the Eden Gardens.
Parineeti Chopra has been confirmed to show her moves at the opening ceremony in Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium ahead of Delhi Daredevils’ opening home game of the tournament on April 15. Shraddha Kapoor’s Baghi co-star, Tiger Shroff will be showing off his dancing skills at Gujarat Lions’ home ground in Rajkot. Tiger is expected to perform at Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) stadium. Sachin-Jigar and singer Bhoomi Trivedi will be joining Tiger Shroff at this opening ceremony. Ritesh Deshmukh is expected to perform in Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association’s International Stadium. While the celebrities for five of the opening ceremonies have been confirmed by officials, the celebrities expected at Mumbai and Bangalore are yet to be confirmed. Kings XI Punjab will be playing their first match in Indore instead of Mohali and the plan of the event have not been revealed.
2. Venues of the eight opening ceremonies
The idea behind organising eight separate opening ceremony is to celebrate every single city that is participating in IPL 2017. The eight teams, Mumbai Indians, Rising Pune Supergiant, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Lions, Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab, will have an opening ceremony at their home ground. The first opening ceremony will be held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad where Amy Jackson is expected to give a six minute long performance on songs like Tamma Tamma, Let’s Nacho, Kar Gayi Chull and Kala Chashma.
As per the IPL officials, the other opening ceremonies will be held at Maharashtra Cricket Association’s International Stadium, Pune(Rising Pune Supergiant); Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot (Gujarat Lions); M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Eden Gardens, Kolkata (Kolkata Knight Riders), Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, Delhi (Delhi Daredevils) and Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai (Mumbai Indians). The IPL opening ceremony for Kings XI Punjab will most likely be held at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore as the Punjab team will begin playing here.
3. Rumours about the IPL Opening Ceremony
Weeks before IPL Chairman, Rajeev Shukla made the announcement of having eight separate opening ceremonies, the rumours of the idea had already hit the news. As per usual IPL tradition, various other rumours are also revolving around the Indian Premier League, especially the opening ceremony. The prestigious cricketing association is rumoured to have planned to facilitate cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly at the ceremonies. As the celebrity performing for Mumbai Indians is still not disclosed, rumours of Hrithik Roshan performing at IPL are doing the rounds. Hrithik had previously featured in a promotional video for Mumbai Indians back in 2013.
