It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s Kieron Pollard taking a screamer at the fence. Mumbai Indians star Pollard is known for his slogging skills and for destroying the bowlers with his powerful hits. But, other than his batting, Pollard doesn’t fail to surprise while fielding.
MI was playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday, and it was due to Pollard’s outstanding catch at the boundary line which sent the dangerous RCB batsman, Kedar Jhadav back to the pavilion.
While batting first, RCB lost wickets early in the match and their major batsmen like Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers departed early. It was Pawan Negi and Jadhav who batted well in the last few overs and lead the team to the respectable total.
However, on the very last ball of the first innings, Pollard’s stunning catch at the boundary line saved six runs for Mumbai and also ended the partnership between Negi and Jadhav.
It was Mitchell McClenaghan who was bowling the last over and he bowled a short delivery. Jadhav flat-batted it towards the long-off boundary. However, just when it looked that the ball will go for the maximum, Pollard jumped high in the air and took the catch with great composure.
Watch the catch here:
The catch proved out to be crucial later in the match as, RCB total was cut down by six runs and while chasing the target of 163 runs, MI slowed down in the middle overs. The match went into last over and MI won the match with just a ball to spare, courtesy a superb captain innings by Rohit Sharma who smashed an unbeaten half-century against RCB.
The result of the game could have been different if Pollard wouldn’t have taken that catch in the first innings and saved six runs for the team. As they say, catches win you matches and that’s what exactly happened in the match no 38 of IPL 10.
