IPL 2017 to finally have Pakistani players: BCCI agrees PCB’s Proposal to participate in VIVO Indian Premier League 10th Edition

The 10th edition of Indian Premier League, IPL 2017 will see the return of Pakistani players in the cash-rich Twenty20 cricket tournament established by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to the reports, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan sent in a proposal to BCCI over their star players’ participation in VIVO IPL 2017 and much to the surprise of millions, the Indian cricketing body, have given a green signal to the excellent thought. A special IPL 2017 auction will be taking place before the scheduled date of the first match of IPL 10 on 2nd April. Not just the inclusion of Pakistan players in the tournament, there are also reports of IPL 2017 semi finals being held in Sharjah, UAE to attract both Indian and Pakistani fans. The VIVO Indian Premier League 2017 match fixtures were announced by BCCI featuring eight teams commencing on the 5th April and end on the 21st May 2017. Pakistani cricketers took part in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 but were barred from participating in the IPL since the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Taking the most surprising move, PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan extended an olive branch to their Indian counterpart, BCCI previous week. The India-Pakistan cricketing rivalry which has given the fans many high-octane matches are all set to mingle up in the coming season of Indian Premier League 2017. A few days ago the PCB chief had announced about filing a compensation case against the BCCI before the ICC Disputes Resolution Committee for India’s refusal to play Pakistan in bilateral series.

Khan was quoted saying “We see no chance of a Pakistan and India bilateral series. Political relations have also been tense in the past but we still had cricket series. But with the Modi government (in India) we don’t think they (India) will play us in existing circumstances.” But it was a changed scenario as he took a complete U-turn. PCB announced of going ahead with restoring the India-Pakistan cricketing ties by letting Men in Green participate in the VIVO IPL 2017 with BCCI’s permission. There are also reports of IPL 2017 semi finals to be held in Sharjah for pulling a better crowd as matches in India for the last edition drew tepid footfalls. Indian Premier League shifted out of the country during two seasons – IPL 2009 when it was held in South Africa and IPL 2014 when the first leg was held in UAE, with the second and final leg being played on the country soil.

India had barred the cricketers from the neighbouring country in the wake of 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, the same year BCCI commenced their first edition of IPL. 11 Pakistani cricketers were playing in the IPL 2008 including Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Akhtar. Pacer Sohail Tanvir was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. A decade later excited present day stars of Pakistan cricket are all set to make the return to India’s impressive Twenty20 cricket tournament VIVO IPL 2017.

According to reports, a top authority from BCCI who requested to be not named confirmed the news of Pakistani cricketers participating in IPL 10. As most of the IPL 2017 franchises already announced their rosters and full squads, a special auction will be held reportedly on April 2. Some of the big names coming from across the border are Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Hafeez, Hasan Ali, Babar Azam, Azhar Ali, Sarfraz Ahmed and Shoaib Malik among others. There have been several causalities in the current IPL teams, like Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, KL Rahul and more. These Pakistani cricketers are expected to fill in the void both on the field as match player as well as bring in the entertainment factor.
