Apple has rolled out its iOS 13 updates for its existing iPhone users across the globe, which includes India as well.
However, unlike the previous iterations, iOS 13 carries a list of India-specific features, including support for multiple Indic languages, to entice more users to join its ecosystem.
But how desi has Apple managed to go with its latest operating system for the iPhone? Here’s a low-down of all those features that will please Apple iPhone users in India.
Which iPhones Support iOS 13?
It’s worth knowing that iOS 13 in 2019 will only work only on these iPhone generations: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE and the iPod touch.
This will come across as bad news for a lot of iPhone users in the country, especially those who’re still using the iPhone 5S and 6, as the iOS 13 update won’t be available for their devices.
What Indian iPhone Users Are Getting?
As you can see here, Apple’s voice assistant will finally speak to Indian users in a language they can understand, in a male and female version.
This part of localising has been used extensively across different sectors in the country, including the cab aggregator and food delivery beats. Apple will be hopeful that aligning to an Indian accent could entice more people to buy iPhones.
Also, there is a slew of language-supported updates, which will help in a localised typing experience, as well as giving them predictive text in those languages as well.
Indic Languages Gain Prominence
With the Devanagari keyboard in tow, iPhone users will also be able to type in Hindi and chat with friends in the local language. But it’s good to see Apple focus on other basic aspects with iOS 13. For instance, letting videos from Hotstar and Netflix download only when the network is devoid of congestion.
The other data-related feature is Apple finally realising that in India, there are more people on mobile internet than Wi-Fi, because of which it has removed the limit on app downloads, which was earlier fixed at 200MB. Now your apps on iOS will download seamlessly on Wi-Fi or mobile internet.
So, in addition to dark mode, the ability to use flash-drives on iPhone, as well as save files on local storage folders are some of the India-centric features rolling out with iOS 13.
