Udhagamandalam, July 10 (PTI): A tusker with an injury at its back has died despite treatment at a camp in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Nilgiris district, Forest Department said on Saturday.

The elephant was captured from Gudalur in the district on June 16 and was being kept in an enclosure for treatment of temperature and swelling in both its hind legs.

Though the wound healed, the 32-year-old tusker remained weak and died on Friday, said the department.

The animal that was straying into human habitat for the last three years was caught by mahouts and veterinarians with the help of tamed elephants, it said. PTI COR NVM NVG NVG
