Justice Indira Banerjee on Wednesday was sworn-in as the new Chief Justice of the Madras High Court (HC) at a ceremony held in Chennai. Banerjee succeeded SK Kaul who was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court (SC) in February this year. She was a sitting judge of the Delhi High Court and also practiced on the Original and Appellate Sides of Calcutta High Court earlier. A BA (Honours), LLB, Banerjee pursued law at the University of Calcutta. Having been appointed as the permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court in 2002, she was transferred to the Delhi HC in 2016.
