Indian couple arrested for running Tollywood sex racket in US
Fresh from the Sri Reddy casting couch controversies, Tollywood is already dealing with another huge blow. In a shocking incident, an Indian-origin couple in Chicago, USA, was arrested by US investigators for running a sex racket in the country.
According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, the investigation began based on a 42-page complaint filed in the US District Court in Chicago.
Kishan Modugumudi alias Sreeraj Chonnupatti (34) and his wife Chandra (31) were luring Tollywood actress to the US on the pretext of shows, and were then pushing them into prostitution. The couple has also been accused of harassing the victims. Kishan is allegedly a businessman in the US and has co-produced a few films in Telugu.
Investigators found evidence of harassment in the form of a note from one of the couple's victims. The person had sent a note to the couple, pleading not to harass her anymore and to leave her alone.
The couple charged up to USD 3,000 for such 'dates' and 'encounters'. In addition to that, the actresses were forced to stay in dingy apartments to wait for their 'dates'.
The victims were generally brought to the US on the pretext of a show or an event. Most of their clients are participants of Indian events or cultural shows that happen in the US.
When the police raided the Kishan and Chandra's house, they found about 70 condoms in different ziplock bags, and a ledger maintained by Chandra, which had details of the actresses and the sexual acts they performed.
The Indian couple is currently in the jail and have not been allowed to procure bail. Their two children have been moved to child welfare officials in Virginia.
