If We Make Indian Content, We Have to Put SRK, Says Marvel VP

VP of Creative Development, Marvel, Stephen Wacker has supervised and developed an array of top selling titles. When the former senior editor of Marvel Comics was asked if he would create characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Indian audiences, Wacker answered in the affirmative. And who would he cast for such a character? Shah Rukh Khan, of course!

“I think in the next few years Marvel is going to try to create characters with a real toehold in Indian culture. Try for authenticity that can go as far as finding Indian talent. We want to find a way to create characters that have a home in this world so we can bring Indian culture to the core North American Marvel fan,” said Wacker to The Indian Express.

Stephen further said, “I can’t speak for the movies. If we have stories set in different countries, the goal is always to use actors from that part of the world.”

Fans and critics have also voiced concerns over women's representation in superhero genre but Marvel comics universe has always had "fantastic" female characters, says Stephen Wacker.

Wacker said these characters will soon make it to the big as well as the small screen and the process has already begun.

"For Marvel, female characters are not new. They have always been around. I believe we are the only company at which people have been looking at for the past decade. There have been a lot of Marvel superhero movies, but there hasn't been a lot of time yet.

"Marvel has no shortage of fantastic female characters. And all these characters are going to come out. Captain Marvel is a great step on the movie side. We have Jessica Jones and Cloak & Dagger on television and both the shows have women as central characters," Wacker told PTI in an interview.
