India witnesses a steep surge in COVID-19 cases; Maharashtra remains worst-hit State

India is witnessing a second wave of Coronavirus with a jolting spike in cases in seven states. In the last 24 hours, India has recorded 24,882 fresh COVID19 cases taking the tally to 11333728. This is also the highest daily rise in the last 83 days. The country's active caseload increased to 202022 and death toll surged to 158446.

Out of all states, Maharashtra is the worst affected state with over 15000 cases coming in a single day. A total of 158446 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 52,723 from Maharashtra. Will India be able to curb the new COVID-19 pandemic wave?
