Team India surprised everyone with their selection for the second Test against South Africa. Wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel took Wriddhiman Saha‘s place who was ruled out due to a hamstring niggle , KL Rahul replaced Shikhar Dhawan’s for opening spot, whereas Ishant Sharma came in for Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Sunil Gavaskar questioned India’s team selection for the second South Africa Test, saying opener Shikhar Dhawan is always the ‘scapegoat’.

“I think Shikhar Dhawan is the ‘Bali ka Bakra’ (scapegoat). His head is always on the chopping board. He just needs one bad innings and he is out of the team,” as quoted by PTI.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled brilliantly in the first innings taking three wickets in his first three overs. He was one of India’s stars from the Cape Town Test where he not only picked 6 wickets but also consumed the most number of balls from the Indian camp. Gavaskar said he failed to understand why Bhuvi was dropped.

“I also don’t understand why Ishant came in for Bhuvneshwar when he had taken three wickets on the opening day at Cape Town. Ishant could have replaced Shami or Bumrah but leaving him out, I don’t understand.”

India lost the first Test by 72 runs.
