16 Mar 2021: India vs England: Remaining T20Is to be played behind closed-doors
In a major development, the remaining three T20Is between India and England in Ahmedabad will be played behind closed doors.
The decision has been taken considering the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases around the country.
While the BCCI informed the same, Dhanraj Nathwani, Vice President of the Gujarat Cricket Association announced that the spectators who have purchased tickets will receive a refund.
BCCI: Here's what the BCCI said in a statement
"The decision was arrived at following detailed discussions with the state and local health authorities," the BCCI added in a statement.
The statement added, "The BCCI will continue to comply with all the regulations put in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus and will always put the health and safety of its fans and stakeholders at the top."
Refund: Spectators will receive a refund for purchased tickets
As expected, the spectators who have already purchased tickets will receive a refund.
"Refund will be given to the spectators who have purchased tickets. Due to increasing number of Corona cases, Gujarat Cricket Association has decided to organise the remainder T20 International matches between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad behind closed doors," said Nathwani.
Fact: Over 1,30,000 people turned up in the two T20Is
The BCCI had allowed 50 percent of the crowd in the India-England matches. As a result, over 1,30,000 people turned up, with over 65,000 per game at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, the Men in Blue will now miss the support of the home crowd.
Series: The five-match series is leveled at 1-1
The five-match series is presently leveled at 1-1 after India made a comeback by winning the second T20I.
Stellar knocks by debutant Ishan Kishan (56) and Indian skipper Virat Kohli (73*) helped India chase down 165 with ease.
Now, the two teams will lock horns in the third T20I on March 16.
Meanwhile, the final two games are scheduled for March 18 and 20.
