11 Feb 2021: India vs England: Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of Test series

Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the ongoing four-match Test series against England.

Jadeja had earlier dislocated his thumb during the Sydney Test against Australia and could not take part in the fourth Test in Brisbane.

He was sent to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for 'further management of his injury' after consultation with a hand specialist in Sydney.

Return: Jadeja's return was expected by the management

Earlier, the BCCI had announced the squad for the first two Tests and it was expected that Jadeja might make a return for the third and fourth Test matches respectively.

Reports claimed that Jadeja would have gone to Ahmedabad early for the mandatory quarantine to be ready to join the full squad.

Fact: Jadeja's recovery is taking more time than expected

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Jadeja's recovery is taking more time than expected and there's "no chance" he will be fit for the Tests. Meanwhile, whether the senior cricketer will be fit for the white-ball matches against England is also not clear.

Fact: Jadeja impressed for India against the Aussies

Jadeja played two Tests against Australia Down Under. He claimed seven wickets in those matches with a best of 4/62 at the SCG. He also chipped in with scores of 57 and 28*.

Asset: Jadeja is a crucial asset for Team India

Jadeja has been a valuable asset for Team India of late. He has contributed immensely across all three departments on the field.

The all-rounder has scored 1,954 runs in Tests at an average of 36.18.

He has also taken 220 wickets at a strong average of 24.32.

He has nine five-wicket hauls with a best of 7/48.

First Test: India missed Jadeja in the first Test against England

India missed the services of Jadeja in the recently concluded first Test against England in Chennai.

The hosts lost the match by 227 runs and Jadeja's exploits would have served India well.

India also had Axar Patel getting ruled out with an injury as Shahbaz Nadeem was drafted into the starting XI.

Nadeem disappointed with the ball and bowled a host of no-balls.
