Team India fought back against England after losing Shubman Gill early on before throwing the momentum away in the first session on Day 1 of the second Test (106/3).

Rohit and Pujara 85 runs before the latter was dismissed by Jack Leach in the 21st over.

India lost skipper Virat Kohli next for a five-ball duck.

Gill: Shubman Gill dismissed for a duck

Shubman Gill (0) registered a duck after misjudging the ball completely.

He didn't offer any shot against an Olly Stone delivery that came in.

Gill was plumb and didn't review he decision.

Team India didn't open the account as Gill was dismissed in the second over.

This was Gill's maiden duck and a second single score digit across nine innings.

Stone: Stone does well in opening spell

Stone impressed in his opening spell. The pacer bowled well, giving away just eight runs from four overs.

He also bowled two maiden overs and out India under pressure by getting Gill's wicket.

Stone has a crucial Test match ahead of him in the absence of James Anderson and Jofra Archer.

Rohit: Rohit plays an aggressive innings

Star Indian batsman Rohit Sharma played an aggressive innings.

He timed the ball well and scored briskly.

The senior batsman scored a sublime fifty.

This was Rohit's 12th fifty in Test cricket.

It was also his maiden fifty against England in Tests.

Rohit has smashed 13 fours and a six.

Pujara: Pujara shows character before being dismissed

Pujara battled it out in the middle and supported Rohit.

The senior batsman played as per his strengths and defended well.

His application allowed India to wear down the ball as Rohit and Pujara shared a crucial 50-run plus stand for the second wicket.

Pujara scored two boundaries in a 58-ball 21.

However, he was dismissed after a careless shot against Leach.

Fact: Kohli registers fourth duck against England

Team India captain Kohli lost his wicket early on after Moeen Ali tempted him to play a big drive. Kohli got carried away as the ball spun back sharply. This was his fourth career Test duck against England.
