13 Feb 2021: India vs England, 2nd Test: Rohit and Rahane lead fightback

Team India duo Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane stitched an impressive century-plus stand to help the side's fightback against England on Day 1 of the second Test.

India resumed the second session on 106/3 and both players have made sure another wicket wasn't lost as England toiled hard (189/3).

India will look to build from here on and end the day strongly.

Rohit: Brilliant Rohit gets to seventh Test ton

Rohit resumed the second session on an unbeaten 80.

The opening batsman converted his bright knock into a century.

This was Rohit's seventh career Test century.

Rohit built India's innings alongside Rahane and he took his time.

He didn't look in a rush and played sensibly.

His six off Moeen Ali's bowling to get to 97 was a major highlight.

Rahane: Rahane bats well to support Rohit on slow pitch

Rahane needed a strong response after a dual failure in the first Test.

The Indian vice-captain has a poor record against England on home soil and this innings will give him the confidence.

Rahane struck four fours in the second session and batted well against the England spinners.

The two batsmen made sure India ended the session on a strong note.

With the pitch assisting the spinners, Jack Leach continued to bowl well in the second session as well.

The left-arm spinner bowled in the right channels and didn't give anything away.

He bowled six overs at a stretch after lunch and impressed largely.

Meanwhile, both Olly Stone and Moeen Ali proved to be ineffective.

Stuart Broad brought his experience into play.

Fact: All of Rohit's seven tons have come at home

Notably, Rohit has amassed all his Test centuries at home. Only, Mominul Haque of Bangladesh has more centuries at home without scoring one away (10).
