India reports highest single-day spike of 2021 with 72,330 new COVID-19 cases, 459 more deaths

India has reported the highest single-day spike of 2021 with 72,330 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally to 1,22,21,665. The death toll of 459 is highest in around 116 days. A total of 6,51,17,896 people have been vaccinated across the country till now. According to the Union Health Ministry, 1,14,74,683 people have recovered from the COVID virus. As per the Health Ministry’s data, the case fatality rate has further has dropped to 1.33 per cent. The recovery rate has further dropped to 93.89 per cent, the data stated. Meanwhile, to combat the spread of coronavirus, the government will vaccinate people above 45 years starting today.
