The COVID-19 case tallies in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka crossed the 1-lakh mark on Monday, 27 July. In Andhra Pradesh, 6,051 new cases took the count to 1,02,349, while in Karnataka the tally stood at 1,01,465 with the addition of 5,324 new infections. Both the states have seen a surge in the number of coronavirus cases of lately.
Meanwhile, launching COVID-19 testing facilities in Noida, Mumbai and Kolkata on Monday, PM Modi said that India is in a much better position than other countries in the fight against the disease due to right decisions taken at the right time.
According to the data by the Union Health Ministry put out earlier on Monday, India recorded the biggest one-day spike of 49,931 cases, taking its tally to 14,35,453, with the death toll standing at 32,771.

'India in a Better Position Than Other Countries': PM Modi at Launch of Testing Facilities
Launching COVID-19 testing facilities in Noida, Mumbai and Kolkata on Monday, PM Narendra Modi said these new facilities will give West Bengal, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh more strength to fight the disease.
Due to right decisions taken at the right time, India is in a much better position than other countries in the fight against COVID-19, he said, pointing out that the deaths due to the virus in India are much lower than many big countries.
“In January, we had only one centre for COVID-19 testing... Now there are about 1,300 labs operating in country... In the COVID-19 fight, we have come to a point where we do not lack awareness, scientific data is expanding, resources are increasing," Modi was quoted by PTI as saying at the launch on Monday.

101 New Cases in Maharashtra Police Force
At least 101 new COVID-19 cases and one death was reported in Maharashtra Police Force. Total cases in the Force have risen to 8,584 including 6,538 patients who have recovered and 94 deaths, the Maharashtra Police said
Fatality Rate at 2.28%: Health Ministry
According to the Health Ministry, India’s Case Fatality Rate (CFR) continues to improve and is 2.28%.
Improvement in COVID-19 Situation in Delhi
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that there is improvement in the situation in Delhi and that there was a no need of a second lockdown.
“There's improvement in COVID situation in Delhi. The Delhi model is being discussed in India and abroad. Today the recovery rate in Delhi is 88%, only 9% of the people are ill now and 2-3% of the people have died. There is a decline in the number of deaths,” he said.
“There was no need to impose second lockdown in Delhi. This is a matter of satisfaction,” he added.
“As of now, there is an arrangement of 15,500 beds at hospitals in Delhi. Only 2,800 COVID patients remain at these hospitals,12,500 beds are vacant. In June, we were at the 2nd position in the country as far as states with the highest cases were concerned. Today we are 10th,” Kejriwal said.
448 New Cases in Rajasthan
At least 448 new COVID-19 cases and 7 deaths were reported in Rajasthan. The total number of cases in the state stands at 36,878 including 631 deaths.
Health Ministry Updates Number of Vacant Beds in Delhi Hospitals
404 COVID-19 beds are vacant in Dr RML, Safdarjung and Lady Hardinge Medical College hospitals from today at 7 am, against a total of 529 COVID beds, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare notified. AT least 1,283 beds are also vacant since 7 am in AIIMS Delhi against a total number of 1,515 COVID beds.
1,68,06,803 Samples Tested Across India: ICMR
The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to 26 July is 1,68,06,803 including 5,15,472 samples tested yesterday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) notified.
