6. Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu ranks sixth in the most corrupt states' list, according to the India Corruption Survey 2019. Around 62% of the participants from TN admitted to paying bribes to get their work done. Nearly 35% said they had to bribe several times, while 27% paid bribes just once or twice. Only 8% said they managed to get the work done without paying a bribe.

These are the most corrupt states in India

Over the last several decades, corruption has been a part and parcel of daily life in India. While the introduction of transparent systems in public services has largely reduced corruption in centralised services — such as securing a passport or buying a railway ticket — most citizen services at the state and local levels are still ridden with bribery and kickbacks.

LocalCircles and Transparency International India have concluded the India Corruption Survey 2019 to ascertain the level of domestic corruption in the country and gather citizens’ inputs on this ugly truth. The survey, called ‘India Corruption Survey 2019’, received 190,000 responses from people located across 20 states and 248 districts of India. The results indicate that 51% Indians paid a bribe in the last 12 months.

Here’s a look at the states that emerged as the most corrupt according to the survey. (Least corrupt to most corrupt)
