India continues its fight against COVID-19, four states see a surge in cases

The COVID vaccine rollout in India is currently underway and more than 6mn people have already been vaccinated, but even as the vaccine rollout continues, the COVID -19 continues to haunt the nation. A surge in the number of COVID cases has been reported for the fourth consecutive day. This is the first time that a surge is being witnessed ever since the month of November. Apart from Maharashtra and Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab too are now witnessing a jump in the COVID cases. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has imposed a weekend lockdown in the two most affected districts. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has also tested positive for COVID-19.
