Mumbai, March 20 -- Two of the lead actors of Delhi Belly (2011), Imran Khan and Vir Das, will team up for the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards India (VMAI) on March 23.
A source says, "MTV has roped in Bollywood heartthrob Imran Khan and ace comedian Vir Das to host the upcoming awards. The duo that left the audiences in splits with their histrionics in Delhi Belly, make for great hosts. The organisers thought that it would be perfect to have them anchor the first Indian edition of the awards." Apparently, what helped also was the fact that the two have a good record of playing hosts in the past.
The source says, "Imran has hosted award ceremonies and people have loved him. Vir, as everyone knows, is a stand-up comic and has been a host for a while. Besides, the channel's target audience is the youth and both of them have a strong appeal amongst youngsters."
Vir confirms the news, "Imran and I are hosting the ceremony. If you see the format abroad, it's very young, cool and edgy. You just have to go out there and do some crazy stuff. You've got to abandon all norms and be fun. In India, award ceremonies follow strict formats, certain rules and regulations. So the idea is to break that pattern."
Adds Imran, "I am returning as a host after a long gap. The best part is that I have my Delhi Belly partner in crime Vir Das to give me company on stage. We had a blast while shooting the movie and so I am sure this time around as well it will be a riot and I hope the audiences enjoy us on stage."
