Ikechukwu Ibenegbu fails to make Enyimba squad to Morocco

The People’s Elephant defensive midfielder was among the obvious omission when they traveled on Monday for Casablanca

Enyimba’s Ikechukwu Ibenegbu’s quest to mark his comeback from injury in the return leg of their Caf Confederation Cup semi-final tie with Raja Casablanca has been truncated after he failed to make the travelling squad to the north African country.

Ibenegbu copped an injury during the team's clash with Williamsville AC in Port Harcourt and his several attempts to stage a return to the game has not been fruitful due to fitness issues.

The People’s Elephant head coach, Usman Abdallah disclosed that even though Ibenegbu has made tremendous progress he and the technical crew decided it was best he was left out to enable the midfielder to continue with the rest of his recovery programme and not just be thrown into the fray without been adequately prepared.

“We didn’t leave with Ibenegbu after considering various options,” Abdallah told Goal.

“I actually thought he has recovered enough to travel with us but after we looked at other options we felt it was best for him to stay and continue with his recovery programme so that he will be fit and ready for the next challenge.

“He has done very well with what I have seen of him but it will be too hasty and sudden to just consider him for the game of this magnitude where so much is at stake. We want him to continue his training and get himself more prepared for the task ahead.”
