IES officer arrested for ‘sexually assaulting’ woman

New Delhi, Apr 4 (PTI) A 26-year-old Indian Engineering Services (IES) officer has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting, stalking and threatening to kill a JNU student, police said today.

The accused, Rakesh Meena, is posted as an assistant executive engineer in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The victim, who is in her early 20s, yesterday filed a complaint at Vasant Kunj (North) police station, alleging that the officer had been harassing her since 2012 when she was a minor.

She had been facing the abuse for the last five years but couldn’t muster the courage to approach police, said a senior police officer.

However, when the accused threatened to kill her, she decided to approach the cops.

Since the accused had started harassing her when she was a minor, he was booked under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and on charges of stalking, outraging her modesty and criminal intimidation, he said.

On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered against him and he was arrested.

The accused and the victim used to stay in the same locality in Alwar, Rajasthan. They became friends but the accused started harassing her and she started avoiding him, he said.

He would allegedly call her up at odd hours, send her objectionable messages on Whatsapp and had even threatened to leak her morphed photos on social media, if she didn’t agree to his demands.
