Iconic Gateway of India Lights Up Marking 71st Independence Day

Actor Amitabh Bachchan's voice and the graphic presentation of the history of Mumbai on the monument appealed to the locals and tourists in the audience.

Mumbai, August 15: Marking the 71st Independence Day, the Gateway of India in Mumbai was lighted up. With a presentation complete with hologram-ish story-telling, the Gateway took the audience to a journey of time, retelling the history of Mumbai and the Indian struggle for independence.

Elaborately illustrated, the Gateway of India lit up to the audience on Tuesday by the seashore. The presentation also included laser shows. It also narrated the history of Mumbai and India using myths and legends.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan’s voice with the impressive graphic presentation of the history of  Mumbai, earlier called Bombay, appealed largely to the locals and tourists in the audience. As part of the Independence Day celebration, the tricolor was also graphically projected on the Gateway of India.

While security was required to be beefed up in the city due to the Independence day celebrations. Additional pressure was on the Mumbai police due to celebration of Dahi Handi day on Tuesday as well. In this, although incidents of accidents during the Dahi Handi events were reported during the day, the Independence Day event at Gateway of India was conducted without any untoward incidents happening.
