Hyundai i20 Elite CVT variant launched, prices start at Rs 7.04 lakh
Hyundai has launched the CVT variant of its premium hatchback, the i20 Elite. The prices for the i20 CVT starts from Rs 7.04 lakh to Rs 8.16 lakh, ex-showroom for its Magna and Asta variants respectively.
However, this is not the first automatic gearbox for the Hyundai hatch. The Korean car manufacturer had previously made available an automatic option on its pre-facelift automatic model which was powered by an 1.4-litre petrol mated to a standard 4-speed torque converter.
On the new facelifted Hyundai i20, Hyundai is looking to leverage Indian vehicle laws which are applicable to sub-4-metre cars with engine capacities under 1,200cc. The Hyundai i20 CVT is powered by an 83bhp, 1,197cc petrol which has helped the Korean carmaker to price its new CVT hatch with a slightly competitive price as compared to the older i20 automatic. When compared to its manual siblings, the automatic variants are more expensive by slightly more than Rs 1 lakh.
Apart from the change in the gearbox, now replaced with a CVT automatic, there are no significant changes on these variants. The i20 CVT sits against rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno which gets a petrol-CVT combination priced from Rs 7.10-8.41 lakh, ex-showroom, and the Honda Jazz which is priced from Rs 7.71-8.41 lakh, ex-showroom. This means the Hyundai i20 CVT undercuts its competitors by at least Rs 6000.
