Hyderabad, May 16: A resident of Hyderabad, Kulsum Banu, who was allegedly trafficked to Muscat, Oman in December 2018 on pretext of a job, was rescued after five months. Banu, who returned to India on May 8, thanked External Affairs Ministers Sushma Swaraj for her help. Banu was quoted by ANI saying, "I thank Sushma Swaraj ji. I could have never returned without her help." Describing her ordeal, Banu said an agent named Abrar, offered her job in a beauty parlour and offered Rs 30,000 for the it.

"I was sent to Muscat on 17 Dec '18 but was made to work as a domestic help. I was tortured by the family and later by agent. I somehow contacted Indian Embassy&later my daughter,who contacted Sushma ji", Banu said. Sushma Swaraj to the Rescue, Again! While speaking to ANI, Banu said, "My daughter has complained about the matter to EAM Sushma Swaraj through a letter. After that, Indian Embassy paid a fine amounting to a sum of five thousand Riyal which was imposed on me and sent me back to India". Recalling the incident, Banu said after accepting the agent's offer, she was sent to Muscat on December 17, 2018. After going there, she realised that there was no beautician job and her employers made her work as a housemaid. According to Banu, her employers handed her over to a local agent in Muscat who took her to his home. She alleged that the agent locked her in a room for ten days without food and also thrashed her several times.
