'Hurt' De Villiers says Proteas let country down through poor T20 WC campaign

Colombo, Oct.3 (ANI): South Africa captain A.B. de Villiers has said his team let the whole country down through its shambolic performance in the Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

Speaking after the South Africans had lost all three matches in the Super Eight stage of the tournament, De Villiers said the players just couldn't click during the whole tournament.

"Disappointed isn't the word to describe it, we've had a poor tournament," Sports24 quoted De Villiers, as saying.

"We've let the country down and that's what hurts the most. We did all the preparation possible, we thought we were ready but the guys didn't click," he added.

India made 152-6 in their 20 overs and needed to restrict South Africa to 121 runs or less to reach the last four stage of the tournament at Pakistan's expense, but could only manage to bowl their opponents out for 151 in a narrow, but academic victory.

Pakistan will meet hosts Sri Lanka in the first semi-final in Colombo on Thursday while Australia, who went through on run rate despite losing to Pakistan, will play the West Indies on Friday. (ANI)
