Honeypreet Confesses Role in Panchkula Violence, SIT Tells Court She Raised Anti-India Slogans During Dera meet

The SIT told a Panchkula court that during her six-day interrogation, Honeypreet admitted that she had prepared a blueprint of August 25 violence during a meeting held at sect headquarters in Sirsa on August 17.

New Delhi, Oct 11: Honeypreet Insan, the alleged adopted daughter of rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim, has finally confessed her role in the violence in Pankhkula and Sirsa which killed 41 people on August 25.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Haryana Police interrogating Honeypreet, who is currently under police remand, said that she has admitted to have prepared a guide map of Panchkula, where violence was orchestrated by Dera followers on the day Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted for raping two of his disciples inside Dera headquarters in Sirsa in 2002.

The SIT told a Panchkula court that during her six-day interrogation, Honeypreet admitted that she had prepared a blueprint of August 25 violence during a meeting held at sect headquarters in Sirsa on August 17.

The SIT informed the court that Honeypreet also directed her close aides to upload anti-India videos on social media platforms. In one the videos, Honeypreet could be seen inciting Dera followers with slogans which called for India’s destruction if Ram Rahim is jailed. (Also read: No Fan, Coffee for Honeypreet in Police Lock-up)

The SIT said that Honeypreet’s phone contains vital clues about the viral videos but it is yet to recover it. Honeypreet’s accomplice Sukhdeep Kaur, who is the wife of Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s driver Iqbal Singh, told police that the mobile was either hidden in a Tarn Taran, village in Punjab, or was in Bijnore Uttar Pradesh.

The police is also yet to get access to Honeypreet’s laptop which stores Panchkula’s guide map.

Police also said that Honeypreet is aware about the unaccounted cash which was allegedly taken to a secret location after Gurmeet Ram Rahim was jailed.

On Tuesday, the Panchkula Police sought a nine-day remand of Honeypreet but the court after hearing arguments sent her to three days in police custody.

Earlier, Panchkula Police Commissioner AS Chawla had said that Honeypreet alias Priyanka Taneja was not cooperating in investigation. “Honeypreet is not co-operating in interrogation as desired,” Chawla had told news agency ANI.

Police sought Honeypreet’s remand on the ground that they wanted to take her to other states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.

Honeypreet was at the top of a list of 43 people “wanted” by the state police in connection with the violence. The Haryana Police had on September 1 issued a look-out notice against Honeypreet and another key aide of the Dera chief, Aditya Insan, following apprehensions that they might try to “escape from the country”. She was arrested on October 3 after a 38-day chase.
