Get rid of cold and cough with this quick remedy that uses camphor balls. Try it, it works.

Cold and cough can be quite irritating and no amount of medication gives us enough relief unless it has run its course, not to mention how much discomfort it causes in doing everyday tasks. With the changing season and drop in temperature, many of us fall prey to constant cough and cold which just makes things miserable. While steam and drinking hot liquids can provide some relief, there is one remedy I swear by when it comes to getting instant relief from cough and cold. A simple home remedy, it helps not only get relief, it also helps in getting rid of the infection faster. If you too are fed up of a runny nose and countless sneezes, give this home remedy a try and see how well it works on cough and cold.

This home remedy uses camphor balls or kapur that is mostly found in Indian homes as it is often used during poojas. These balls have anti-bacterial properties and the fumes act as a disinfectant in getting rid of the infection. Camphor fumes when inhaled in small quantities provide relief from cough and throat infection and does not have side-effects. However, caution should be taken before inhaling too much fumes as it can have negative effects. (ALSO SEE Natural remedies for cough)

To use this remedy, use two to three camphor balls. Take a tablespoon or a small ladle and use a tissue or cloth to hold it from its end. Switch on the flame and hold the spoon so that it heats up. At least keep it for a couple of minutes and then switch off the flame. Then place the camphor balls on it and then inhale the fumes as they vaporize. In case that does not happen, you will have to switch on the flame again.

It is best to have someone who can assist you with this process as it is difficult to inhale the fumes whilst holding the spoon. Also, it is natural to cough more and have tears induced by these strong fumes. It is better to cough out when inhaling these as that’s how it will provide relief. Because you are likely to cough a lot, it is best to do this before eating or two hours after a meal. (ALSO SEE Home remedies for cold)

This remedy is a tried and tested one and works well for cough and cold. Do this only once a day to get relief. You can also burn camphor balls and spread the fumes in your room so that the air gets purified due to its anti-bacterial properties. However, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is best to consult your doctor before you try this remedy.
