US president-elect Joe Biden has been congratulated by UK leaders for his election victory.

Among those to offer his congratulations was Boris Johnson, who said the US “is our most important ally”.

However, there are signs that Biden will put the “special relationship” between the UK and the US to the test.

One of the sticking points is likely to be Brexit, as Biden has already issued a warning about Johnson’s apparent willingness to tear up the withdrawal deal aimed at addressing the Irish border question.

It has led some to suggest Biden’s win could be a bad thing for Johnson.

Biden’s success certainly matters for the UK, but it remains to be seen in exactly what way.
