The Assam government has suspended Guwahati (West) Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhanwar Lal Meena for serious lapses in security arrangements during Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi’s visit to the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati on 17 October.
According to a report in Economic Times, CJI Gogoi was visiting the temple during the Navratri festival when the security lapses caused him inconvenience. Local news reports note that due to a visit on the same day by BJP President Amit Shah, hundreds of BJP workers had thronged the temple, and the resulting crowd had not been managed well, leading to CJI Gogoi’s displeasure.
According to the order issued by Deepak Majumdar, on the behalf of the Governor of Assam, DCP Meena has been suspended with immediate effect.
