(Eds: Adding info) Ahmedabad, Jan 5 (PTI) The coronavirus caseload in Gujarat rose to 2,48,581 with 655 new cases coming to light on Tuesday, the state health department said.
Four more patients succumbed to the viral infection, including two in Ahmedabad, which took the overall death toll in the state to 4,325, the department said in a release.
At the same time, 868 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the total number of recoveries in Gujarat to 2,35,426.
The daily spike in coronavirus cases in Gujarat has been witnessing a steady decline over the last few weeks and the state's recovery rate has now improved to 94.71 per cent, said the department.
With 48,039 new tests conducted for coronavirus on Tuesday, the total number of samples tested so far in Gujarat has gone up to 99,06,698.
At 141, Ahmedabad reportedthe highest number of new cases in the state in the day, followed by 124 cases each in Surat and Vadodara.
Rajkot reported 73 new cases, Gandhinagar 24, Kheda and Jamnagar 16 each, Kutch 14, Surendranagar 12, Dahod and Mehsana 11 each, etc.
Of the four fatalities, one death each occurred in Surat and Amreli, the health department said.
Gujarat is now left with 8,830 active cases, it said.

In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, four patients were discharged during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 3,342, officials said, adding that no new case was reported in the day. The tally of coronavirus cases in the UT is 3,351.
The UT is left with seven active cases while two persons have died so far, officials added.
