Gujarat reports 875 COVID-19 cases, 1,004 recoveries; 4 die

(Eds: Adds details) Ahmedabad, Nov 2 (PTI) Gujarat reported 875 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, increasing its tally to 1,74,679, while more than 1,000 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, the state health department said.

The state reportedthe death of four more COVID-19 patients, which took up the number of fatalities to 3,728, it said.

At the same time, 1,004 patients were discharged from hospitals, raising the number of recovered cases to 1,58,251, said the department in a release.

With this, the state's recovery rate rose to 90.60 per cent.

The release said a total of 52,880 tests were conducted for the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the numberof samples tested so far to 61,57,811.

Surat reported 206 new cases, the highest for a district in Gujarat, followed by Ahmedabad 177 and Vadodara 110, the release said.

Among other districts, Rajkot reported 42 new cases, Jamnagar 32, Gandhinagar 30, Patan 23, Mehsana 21, Junagadh 20, Banaskantha 18, Bharuch and Panchmahal 16 each, Amreli, Anand and Aravalli 14 each, Morbi, Sabarkantha and Surendranagar 13 each, and Gir Somnath and Kheda 10 each.

Two of the state's four COVID-19 fatalities were reported in Ahmedabad, and one each in Surat and Banaskantha, said the department.

Out of 12,700 active cases in Gujarat, as many as 58 patients are on ventilators, it said.

In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 3,232 after two more persons tested positive, officials said.

Also, four new recoveries in the UT pushed the number of discharged patients to 3,198, they said.
