Gujarat records 810 COVID-19 cases, 1,016 recoveries; 6 die

(Eds: Adds details) Ahmedabad, Dec 28 (PTI) Gujarat reported 810 new coronavirus cases on Monday, takingits tally to 2,42,655, while more than 1,000 patients recovered from the infection, the state health department said.

With six new fatalities, the state's COVID-19 death toll rose to 4,288, it said.

The number of recovered cases rose to 2,28,144 after 1,016 more patients were discharged from hospitals, said the department in a release.

With this, the state's COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 94.02 per cent.

As many as 52,906 tests were conducted for COVID-19 on Monday, pushing the number of samples tested so far in the state to 94,90,011, the release said.

The four districts reporting the highest number of COVID-19 cases were Ahmedabad (174), Surat (149), Vadodara (123), and Rajkot (79).

Among other districts, Kutch reported 34 new cases, Mehsana 29, Gandhinagar 23, Banaskantha 20, JUnagadh 19, Bhavnagar 18, Panchmahal 17, Kheda 14, Sabarkantha 11, Bharuch and Dahod 10 each.

Out of the six new deaths, three were reported from Ahmedabad, and one each from Surat, Aravalli and Patan, said the department.

There are now 10,223 active cases in Gujarat, out of which 61 patients are on ventilators.

In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, three new cases were reported on Monday, health officials said.

With this, the COVID-19 tally in the adjoining UT rose to 3,346.

The number of recovered cases stood at 3,332 and active cases at 12, they said.

Two patients have succumbed to the virus in the UT so far, the officials said.

The UT administration did not provide the number of COVID-19 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
