According to sources, the two campaigns are expected to boost the party's chances of a good show in assembly polls.

"Ashok Gehlot, general secretary in-charge of Gujarat, met Rahul Gandhi to discuss the election campaign plan. Rahul has now agreed to address the rally on May 1. He will discuss the issues being faced by the tribals there," said a senior party leader from Gujarat.

Another reason why the Gujarat Congress unit wanted Rahul to address the rally on May 1 is because it is Gujarat Day too.
