Courtesy the best-ever opening stand in the history of the Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off an astonishing run chase against hosts Gujarat Lions in Rajkot on Friday. KKR beat GI by 10 wickets as Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn put up 184 runs for the first wicket. The pitch may have been a belter but it was a fabulous show of batting as Lynn remained not on 93 (41 balls) and Gambhir on 76 (48 balls). Now chew on some stats because records tumbled left, right and centre. This total of 184 was also the highest-ever chased down in any form of T20 cricket, keeping in mind that the chasing team had all 10 wickets in hand.
There was another statistical feat for the opening partnership. Kolkata got the fourth fastest team 100 in the history of the IPL, getting the three-figure mark in 7.4 overs. Earlier, Kolkata won the toss and elected to bowl. It pretty much is as per the pattern of the IPL since the wickets have been fabulous to bat on. Gujarat did really well to score 183 for 4 in their 20 overs. Captain Suresh Raina was the hero of the innings as he made 68 not out off 51 balls. Playing the perfect support cast was Dinesh Karthik, who made 47 off 25 balls.
Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, who took 4 for 25 in 4 overs. There was also a wicket each for Trent Boult and Piyush Chawla. Brendon McCullum made 35 off 24 balls.
