Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017: India, Pakistan Spar Over PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Congress-Pak Conspiracy’ Remark
New Delhi, Dec 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday once again accused the Congress of ignoring efforts of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Sardar Patel and said the two leaders were denied their due by the party which ruled the country for decades. He went on to add that the Congress party wants to link the Ayodhya Ram Temple issue with 2019 elections. Prime Minister Modi trained guns at the Congress over its leader Kapil Sibal’s arguments in the Supreme Court (SC) in the Ramajanambhoomi-Babri Masjid case.
“Yesterday in the SC, a Congress MP Kapil Sibal was arguing (which is his right) for the Babri Masjid. He is entitled to do that but is it right for him to say: postpone hearing till 2019? Why does he have to link a Ram Mandir with elections? Is such thinking proper,” the Prime Minister asked while addressing an election rally in poll-bound Gujarat’s Dhandhuka.
PM Modi said Pandit (Jawaharlal) Nehru used his influence to block Dr. Ambedkar’s entry into the Constituent Assembly.
“One family has done greatest injustice to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Sardar Patel. When Pandit Nehru’s influence on the Congress was complete, the Congress ensured that Dr. Ambedkar found it tough to join the Constituent Assembly,” PM Modi said.
Raking up the contentious issue of triple talaq, PM Modi said he was advised not to speak over the matter as it could impact his party’s performance during elections.
“Everything is not about elections. I won’t be silent on the issue which concerns the rights of women. Elections come later humanity comes first,” he said.
He went on to added that the crackdown on ‘tanker raj’ by the BJP government in Gujarat has served a big blow to Congress leaders.
“The BJP government in Gujarat has ended the ‘tanker taj.’ The tanker business was firmly in the hands of Congress leaders and their families” PM Modi said.
