Gujarat adds 1,124 fresh COVID-19 cases; six die

(EDS: Adding details) Ahmedabad, Nov 14 (PTI) Gujarat recorded 1,124 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 1,87,240, the health department said.

With the death of six COVID-19 patients, including two in Ahmedabad and one each in Amreli, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar and Surat, the number of fatalities in the state rose to 3,797, it said.

At the same time, 995 patients were discharged from hospitals on Saturday, raising the tally of recovered cases to 1,70,931.

This took the recovery rate to 91.29 per cent, said the department in its release.

As many as 52,973 coronavirus tests were conducted in Gujarat over the last 24 hours, at the rate of 814.97 tests per day per million population. The total number of samples tested is 67,87,440.

At 215, Ahmedabad reported the highest number of new cases in the state in the day, followed by Surat with 185 cases.

Rajkot reported 144 new infections while 135 patients were detected in Vadodara, the health department said in the department.

Among other districts, Banaskantha reported 60 new cases, Mehsana 55, Gandhinagar 50, Surendranagar 33, Patan 30, Jamnagar 23, Sabarkantha 22, Kheda 19, Morbi 17, Panchmahal 15, Amreli 14, Junagadh 13, etc.

In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the COVID-19 tally rose to 3,259 with four new cases, while the number of recoveries mounted to 3,232 with three patients getting discharged in the day, officials said.

The number of active cases in the UT stands at 22.
