Gujarat: 35-yr-old Surat builder dies after ‘jumping into Tapi river’

A 35-year-old real estate businessman in Surat died after he allegedly jumped into the Tapi river on Friday. His body was recovered on Saturday afternoon from Kapodara area. The deceased was identified as Shailesh Vaghasia, of Sneh Smurti society in Nana Varachha.

According to Sarthana police, the youth parked his bike on Savji Korat bridge, before allegedly removing his shoes and jumping into the river. A passer-by informed Fire Brigade officials.

Two teams of the fire staff searched the river but could not find the youth till Friday evening. They then informed Sarthana police. On Saturday morning, the fire officials recovered Vaghasia’s body on the banks of the river near Kapodara Uttran bridge.

The police recovered a suicide note written in Gujarati, from the two-wheeler of the deceased, in which he said nobody was responsible for his death. He had mentioned his cousins’ names and mobile numbers, asking them to find a red file in his house with records of his financial investments and cash transactions, police said.

The cousins identified Shailesh’s bike and handwriting. Sources in Shailesh’s family said he had borrowed money from several persons for his business and could not repay them.
