Government introduces new laws allowing Indian citizens to buy land in Jammu & Kashmir

The Centre has paved the way for people outside Jammu and Kashmir to buy land in the union territory by amending several laws, after over a year of the scrapping articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution.

The Centre has omitted the phrase "permanent resident of the state" from Section 17 of the Jammu and Kashmir Development Act that deals with disposal of the land in the union territory.

In its order, the home ministry said the new laws will be called the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Adaptation of Central Laws) Third Order, 2020. It added that it will come into effect immediately.
